AGE REQUIREMENT

Runners must be at least 14 years old to participate in the half marathon and at least 7 years old for the 10K.

THE RACE

Enjoy nature in one of the most beautiful areas of Columbia, MD. Starting and finishing at the Guilford Pratt Truss Bridge, the half marathon & 10K takes place on the Patuxent and Wincopin trailsl. The course runs along the Little Patuxent and Middle Patuxent River. The terrain is tame compared to many trail courses. This race is appropriate for beginners and intermediate runners.  

This race will start at the Guilford Pratt Truss Bridge on Guilford Road - 9175 Guilford Road, Columbia, MD 21046. This is an address for a parking lot. The trail race will start in the parking lot directly across the street from 9175 Guilford Road. 

PACKET PICK UP

Registered participants (Half Marathon & 10K) are required to pick up their packet before the start of the race. If you're unable to attend packet pick-Up, someone may pick up your packet on your behalf. He/she MUST have a copy of the participants photo ID and permission note signed by the participant. No exceptions. Packet pick up will at the following times/locations:

 

  • Saturday, February 1, 2020, 12:00 PM - 5:00 PM - Feet First Sports  - 5305 Village Center Drive, Suite 110 Columbia, MD

  • Sunday, February 2,  2020, 7:30 AM - 9:00 AM - at the race venue

 

RACE DAY SCHEDULE

7:30 a.m.    Packet Pick-Up Opens

9:00 a.m.    Wave 1 start (per mile pace, 8:30 and faster)*

9:03 a.m.    Wave 2 start (per mile pace, 8:31 – 9:30)*

9:06 a.m.    Wave 3 start (per mile pace, 9:31 – 10:30)*

9:09 a.m.    Wave 4 start (per mile pace, 10:31 – 11:30)*

9:12 a.m.    Wave 5 start (11:31 and slower)*

10:30 a.m.    10K Awards Presentation (estimate)

11:12 a.m.  Half Marathon course cut off time, mile 6.6 (turn around)

11:30 a.m.  Half Marathon Awards Presentation (subject to change)

 

*To ensure runner safety and to reduce the amount of passing during the first few miles of the race, participants have been placed into waves based on their average pace per mile as entered during online registration. Each wave will consist of both half marathon and 10K participants. Participants must start in their assigned waves. If your average pace is list incorrectly but only by 30 seconds or so, please remain in your assigned wave. If you feel strongly that you should be placed in a different wave, please notify us at athlete check-in on Saturday or Sunday (emails are no longer being accepted at this time).

RUN COURSE

The half marathon and 10K (6.55 miles) course runs along the Little & Middle Patuxent River. The race starts and finishes at the Guilford Pratt Truss Bridge on Guilford Road in Columbia, MD. The race in a loop course along the Patuxent and Wincopin Trails. 3 miles of the course is packed gravel trail and 3 miles of the course is on natural surface trail. A very small portion of the course is on paved/sidewalk surface. The following are prohibited from the course: pets, baby joggers/strollers, in-line skates, bicycles, and any other non-official wheeled vehicles.  

 

The 10K course (one loop) is 6.55 miles in length. The half marathon course (two loops) is the 10K loop twice. 

 

HALF MARATHON COURSE REQUIREMENT

All runners will reach mile 6.55 (start 2nd loop) in 2 hours. Runners that have not completed this distance by 11:12 AM will not be permitted to continue on the course. A 20:00 per mile pace was used to determine this required course cut off time.

 

RACE BIBS

All participants will be given two race bibs. One race bib will have a number on it. This bib is to be worn on the front of your person. The second bib has the word "half marathon"or "10K" on it. This bib is to be worn on the back of your person. Both bibs are required to be worn through the duration of the race. 

 

WATER STATIONS

There will be 2 aid stations along the race course. 

 

Aid station #1 is located just before starting the Wincopin Trail portion of the race (at mile 1.5). It will be serving water and Gatorade. Runners will pass this aid stations twice per loop. Half Marathon runners will pass this aid station twice per loop.

 

Aid station #2 is located just before Pratt Bridge near the end of the trail loop (at mile 6). It will be serving water and Gatorade. Half Marathon runners will pass this aid station twice per loop.

 

AWARDS

Awards will be given to the top three finishers in the following group categories for both the Half Marathon and 10K:  Overall, 7-8, 9-10, 11-13, 14-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+

PARTICIPANT SHIRT

Participants will receive the shirt size they selected at online registration. We will purchase extra participant shirts to those who wish to exchange their shirt for a different size. Shirt exchanges can be completed at the conclusion of the race.

 

FINISHER GIFT

TRAVEL AND PARKING

Parking for this race will be along Guilford road and in the corporate parking lot directly across the street from the start/finish line. Use the following GPS address for race day, 9175 Guilford Road, Columbia, MD 21046. Note that this is an address for the parking lot. The trail race will start in the parking lot directly across the street from 9175 Guilford Road. 

 

From Baltimore/North of Columbia

Take Route 95 South. Take exit 38B to merge onto M 32 West toward Columbia. In 1.5 miles, take exit 14 onto Broken Land Parkway. In 0.3 miles turn left onto Broken Land Parkway. In 0.6 miles turn left onto Guilford Road. In 1.0 mile, race site on your right. 

 

From Ellicott City

Take US-29 South toward Washington. In 5.9 miles, take exit 16A to merge onto MD-32 East towards Fort Meade. In 1.5 mils, take exit 14B onto Broken Land Parkway South. In 0.2. miles, turn left onto Guilford Road. In 1.0 mile, race site on your right. 

 

From Washington D.C./South of Columbia

Take Route 95 North towards Baltimore. Take exit 38B to merge onto MD-32 West toward Columbia. In 2.0 miles, take exit 14 onto Broken Land Parkway. In 0.2. miles, turn left onto Guilford Road. In 1.0 mile, race site on your right. 

 

From Frederick/West of Columbia

Take I-70 East towards Baltimore. Take exit 80 onto MD-32 towards Clarksville, Sykesville. In 14 miles, take exit 14B onto Broken Land Parkway South. In 0.2. miles, turn left onto Guilford Road. In 1.0 mile, race site on your right. 

 

From Annapolis/East of Columbia

Take I-97 toward Baltimore. Take exit 7 on the right onto MD-32 West towards Columbia, Bowie. In 13 miles, take exit 12 A-B onto US-1 North, US-1 South toward Elkridge, Laurel. Keep right onto US-1 North toward Elkridge. In 0.6 miles, turn left onto Guilford Rd. In 2.3 miles, turn left onto Guilford Rd. In 900 ft, race site in on your left.
