THE RACE

The inaugural Discover Downtown Columbia 5K/10K takes place in Downtown Columbia, MD and merges two iconic events into one - the Clyde's 10K and the Discover Downtown Columbia 5K. Starting and finishing in the new Merriweather District, this races uses a portions of both race courses. Participants will receive shirt and finish medal.​

Covid-19 Disclaimer - Important (please read)

We are optimistic that this race will take place in 2021. However, the pandemic may cause a postponement. The postponement race dates include May 23 and June 13. If this race is postponed, registered participants will be automatically moved to the new race date. Additionally, participants will have the option to defer their entry to the 2022 race. We thank you for your understanding as we navigate racing during the pandemic. 

ABOUT THE MERRIWEATHER DISTRICT

​Merriweather District is the first holistic deliverable of Downtown Columbia. It’s the heart and soul of the third city between Baltimore and Washington, DC. This new amenity-rich and walkable district is surrounded by Merriweather Post Pavilion and Symphony Woods. It is a vibrant hub of culture & commerce, offices, shops, restaurants, apartments, structured parking and parkland. Downtown Columbia is creating a place where minds are open, creativity is unleashed and new ideas take shape. To accelerate business. To promote progress. To build a better tomorrow.

AGE REQUIREMENT

Runners must be at least 10 years old to participate in the 10K.

Runners must be at least 7 years old to participate in the 5K.

REGISTRATION DISCLAIMER

  • All participants must register online or in person on race day. 

  • Race day registrants are not guaranteed shirt.

  • Athletes must be at least 8 years old on race day to participate.

  • Race organizers reserve the right to close registration due to capacity limits.

  • Race organizers reserve the right to delay or cancel event due to extreme weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

  • The following are prohibited during the race: pets, baby joggers/strollers, in-line skates, bicycles, and any other non-official wheeled vehicles.

  • All registrations are final. Generally, there are NO refunds. See Covid-19 disclaimer at top of this webpage.  

  • Registrations (bibs) may not be transferred to non-registered athletes. 

  • If the race sells out prior to race weekend, there are no bib transfers permitted.

DEFERRAL POLICY

Participants may elect to defer their 2021 registration to the 2022 race. A $25.00 fee will be required to defer registrations. To defer your registration, email us at racedirector@ripitevents.com. To read the full defer policy, click HERE. Should we be required to postpone this race due to Covid-19, defer fees will be removed. 

PACKET PICK UP 

Registered participants are required to pick up their packet before the start of the race. If you're unable to attend packet pick-up, someone may pick up your packet on your behalf. Packet pick up will at the following times/locations:TBA

WAVE START

To ensure runner safety at the start of the race and to reduce the amount of passing during the first few miles of the race, participants have been placed into waves based on their average pace per mile as entered during online registration. Each wave will consists of 25-50 runners. Participants must start in their assigned waves. If your average pace is list incorrectly but only by 30 seconds or so, please remain in your assigned wave. If you feel strongly that you should be placed in a different wave, please notify us via email to racedirector@ripitevents.com. Starting in the same wave with a friend or spouse NOT considered a valid reason to request a wave change.

BIB TRANSFERS

Allowing a non-registered runner to use your bib is NOT PERMITTED. There are two reasons for this rule. 

 

1. We are implementing specific safety measures due to Covid-19. All registered participants will sign a wavier agreeing to the race rules during the registration process. Additionally, runners will receive detailed information from us days leading up to the event with updated safety requirements. Non-registered runners will not have signed the waiver and will not have receive communication from us. 

 

2. Our race insurance covers registered runners only. It does not cover someone who is running under someone else's name/bib number. 

 

RACE CATEGORY CHANGES 

If you decide to switch from the 10K to the 5K (or vise versa), please let us know by email prior to race day or in-person (prior to the start of the race) on race day. The deadline to switch race category by email is April 21. Please send email to racedirector@ripitevents.com.

WATER STATIONS

During the Covid-19 pandemic, it is safest to carry your own hydration such as a camelback, fuel belt or water bottle.​ Water stations will be located at mile 1, 2.4, 4 and 5.5. All water stations are self serve. 

PARTICIPANT SHIRT & FINISHER MEDAL 

Participants will receive the shirt size they selected at online registration. We will purchase extra participant shirts to those who wish to exchange their shirt for a different size. Shirt exchanges can be completed at the conclusion of the award ceremony. ALL PARTICIPANTS WHO REGISTER BY 11:59PM, APRIL 1 ARE GUARANTEED A T-SHIRT!  Athletes will receive a finisher medal at the finish line.

TIMING & RESULTS

This race will use bib tag timing. Your timing chip will be affixed to the back side of your bib number. Please do not remove your timing chip.

This event will be publishing LIVE results through out the race. To access results on race day, go to www.ripitevents.com and access the "Results" webpage from your smart phone. Choose this race from the race options and enter your bib number on the results page.

AWARDS

Awards will be given to top finishers in the following group categories for both the 5K & 10K:  Overall, 7-8, 9-10, 11-13, 14-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+. 

PARKING

Participants and spectators may park in public parking/garage areas for this event near the race venue. Use 6275 Mango Tree Road, Columbia, MD 21044 to get to the race venue on race morning.
