THE RACE

Managed by Rip It Events, this race consists of an individual 5 mile, 10 mile or a 2-person 10 mile relay option. The start and finish are located at Rockburn Branch Park in Elkridge, Maryland. The race terrain is easy to moderate in difficulty - perfect for both beginners and experienced runners. Registration fee includes shirt and finisher medal. To see an image of this swag, click HERE.

A portion of the race proceeds benefit Bigfoot Endurance, which is a nonprofit organization that raises money and awareness for Parkinson’s research. To learn more about Bigfoot Endurance, click www.bigfootendurance.com.

DEFERRAL POLICY

REGISTRATION DISCLAIMER​

  • All registrations are final. No refunds. Registration transfers are not permitted to other Rip It Events. Registered participants may elect to defer their registration to the 2022 race. See deferral policy for more information. 

  • Race organizers reserve the right to close registration due to capacity limits.

  • Race organizers reserve the right to delay or cancel event due to extreme weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

  • The following are prohibited from the race course: pets, baby joggers/strollers, in-line skates, bicycles, and any other non-official wheeled vehicles.

BIB TRANSFERS:

Allowing a non-registered runner to use your bib is NOT PERMITTED. There are two reasons for this rule. 

 

1. We are implementing specific safety measures due to Covid-19. All registered participants will sign a wavier agreeing to the race rules during the registration process. Additionally, runners will receive detailed information from us days leading up to the event with updated safety requirements. Non-registered runners will not have signed the waiver and will not have receive communication from us. 

 

2. Our race insurance covers registered runners only. It does not cover someone who is running under someone else's name/bib number. 

RACE CATEGORY CHANGES:

If you decide to switch from the 10 Mile to the 5 Mile race (or vise versa), please let us know by email or in-person (prior to the start of the race) on race day. The deadline to switch race category by email is February 24. Please send email to racedirector@ripitevents.com.

 

PACKET PICK-UP

Registered participants are required to pick up their packet before the start of the race. This includes getting your bib, timing chip and shirt. Packet pick up will open at 7:30 AM on both Saturday & Sunday.

WAVE START

To ensure runner safety and to reduce the amount of passing during the first few miles of the race, participants have been placed into waves based on their average pace per mile as entered during online registration. Each wave will consists of 25-50 runners. Participants must start in their assigned waves. If your average pace is list incorrectly but only by 30 seconds or so, please remain in your assigned wave. If you feel strongly that you should be placed in a different wave, please notify us via email to racedirector@ripitevents.com. Starting in the same wave with a friend or spouse NOT considered a valid reason to request a wave change.

RUN COURSE

The race course is run inside Rockburn Park. The race starts and finishes on the gravel path between the playground and pavilion. The course consists of packed gravel and natural surface trail. A small portion of the course is on paved surface. The 5 Miler is one loop of the course. The 10 Miler is the 5 Miler loop twice.

10 MILE COURSE REQUIREMENT

All runners must reach mile 5 (start 2nd loop) in 1 hour and 40 min. Runners who have not completed this distance by 10:40 a.m. (which requires runners to average approximately 20:00 per mile) will not be permitted to continue on the course. 

 

WATER STATIONS 

At this time, Howard County Recreation & Parks has prohibited aid stations due to Covid-19. Runners are encouraged to carry their own hydration such as a camelback, fuel belt or water bottle during the race.

Should we be able to offer water stations, there will be one at mile 1.5 and mile 4.75 on the 6.55 mile loop. We will notify runners should HCRP allow us to have water stations on the course. 

 

AWARDS

Awards will be given to the top finishers in the following group categories for each race distance: Overall, 7-8, 9-10, 11-3, 14-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+ All Male Relay, All Female Relay, Coed Relay

FINISHER MEDAL

Athletes who finish the 10 Miler, 5 Miler, or their leg of the 10 Miler Relay will receive a finisher medal.

PARTICIPANT SHIRT

Participants will receive the shirt size they selected at online registration. Shirt exchanges can be completed at the conclusion of the race at the check-in tents. 

BATHROOMS

Porta-potties will be stationed at the start/finish line. There are no bathrooms on the run course.

 

RESULTS

To reduce the amount of close interaction between race staff and athletes, all results will be posted directly online in real time. Finishers can use their smart phone to access their individual results by viewing the RESULTS webpage at the conclusion of their race. 

 

INCLEMENT WEATHER

In the case of inclement weather, all participants will be notified of changes to the race by email. A message will be at the top of the race web site and will be posted on our social media channels. This race will be run in the rain and light snow.
