THE RACE
Enjoy nature in one of the most beautiful areas of Columbia, MD. Starting and finishing at the Guilford Pratt Truss Bridge, the half marathon & 10K takes place on the Patuxent and Wincopin trailsl. The course runs along the Little Patuxent and Middle Patuxent River. The terrain is tame compared to many trail courses. This race is appropriate for beginners and intermediate runners. New for 2020, the Half Marathon will take place at 8:00 AM on Saturday, March 6. The 10K will take place at 8:00 AM on Sunday, March 7. Runners will be able to sign up for either or both races. Race registration includes a shirt and finisher medal.

TRAVEL AND PARKING
Parking for this race will be along Guilford road and in the corporate parking lot directly across the street from the start/finish line. AGE REQUIREMENT
Runners must be at least 14 years old to participate in the half marathon and at least 7 years old for the 10K.

DEFERRAL POLICY
Due to the race date change, participants may defer their registration to the 2022 race (tentatively scheduled for January 30). There is no fee to defer your registration. The dead line to defer due to the race date change is January 10, 2021. To request a defer to 2022, please email racedirector@ripitevents.com.

WAVE START
To ensure runner safety and to reduce the amount of passing during the first few miles of the race, participants have been placed into waves based on their average pace per mile as entered during online registration. Each wave will consists of 25-50 runners. Participants must start in their assigned waves. If your average pace is listed incorrectly but only by 30 seconds or so, please remain in your assigned wave. If you feel strongly that you should be placed in a different wave, please notify us via email to racedirector@ripitevents.com. Starting in the same wave with a friend or spouse NOT considered a valid reason to request a wave change.

BIB TRANSFERS
Allowing a non-registered runner to use your bib is NOT PERMITTED. There are two reasons for this rule.
1. We are implementing specific safety measures due to Covid-19. All registered participants will sign a wavier agreeing to the race rules during the registration process. Additionally, runners will receive detailed information from us days leading up to the event with updated safety requirements. Non-registered runners will not have signed the waiver and will not have receive communication from us.
2. Our race insurance covers registered runners only. It does not cover someone who is running under someone else's name/bib number.
RACE CATEGORY CHANGES
If you decide to switch from the Half Marathon to the 10K race (or vise versa), please let us know by email prior to race day or in-person (prior to the start of the race) on race day. The deadline to switch race category by email is March 3. Please send email to racedirector@ripitevents.com.
PACKET PICK UP
Registered participants are required to pick up their packet before the start of the race. This includes getting your bib, timing chip and shirt. Packet pick up will open at 7:30 AM on both Saturday & Sunday.
RUN COURSE
The half marathon and 10K (6.55 miles) course runs along the Little & Middle Patuxent River. The race starts and finishes at the Guilford Pratt Truss Bridge on Guilford Road in Columbia, MD. The race in a loop course along the Patuxent and Wincopin Trails. 3 miles of the course is packed gravel trail and 3 miles of the course is on natural surface trail. A very small portion of the course is on paved/sidewalk surface. The following are prohibited from the course: pets, baby joggers/strollers, in-line skates, bicycles, and any other non-official wheeled vehicles.
The 10K course (one loop) is 6.55 miles in length. The half marathon course (two loops) is the 10K loop twice.

HALF MARATHON COURSE REQUIREMENT
All runners will reach mile 6.55 (start 2nd loop) in 2 hours. Runners that have not completed this distance by 11:27 AM will not be permitted to continue on the course. A 20:00 per mile pace was used to determine this required course cut off time.
WATER STATIONS
At this time, Howard County Recreation & Parks has prohibited aid stations due to Covid-19 (updated 11/2/20). Runners are encouraged to carry their own hydration such as a camelback, fuel belt or water bottle during the race.
Should we be able to offer water stations, there will be one at mile 1.5 and mile 4.75 on the 6.55 mile loop. We will notify runners should HCRP allow us to have water stations on the course.
TIMING & WITHDRAWING DURING THE RACE
Your timing chip (orange square) is affixed to the back of your race number bib. Do not remove this timing chip. You can throw away your timing chip/race number at the conclusion of the race if you'd like. It is disposable.
If you drop out of the race at any point, please notify member of the race staff. It is essential that we know where you are on the course at all times for your safety and our peace of mind.
AWARDS
Awards will be given to the top finisher in the following group categories for both the Half Marathon and 10K: Overall, 7-8, 9-10, 11-13, 14-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+. To minimize the contact between runners and race management, awards will be mailed to participants with in 2 weeks of the conclusion of the race.
PARTICIPANT SHIRT & FINISHER MEDAL
Participants will receive the shirt size they selected at online registration. We will purchase extra participant shirts to those who wish to exchange their shirt for a different size. Shirt exchanges can be completed at the conclusion of your race. Runners will receive a finisher medal at the finish line.
BATHROOMS
Porta-potties will be stationed at the start/finish line and at the aid station at mile 1.5.
RESULTS
To reduce the amount of close interaction between race staff and athletes, all results will be posted directly online in real time. Finishers can use their smart phone to access their individual results by viewing the RESULTS webpage at the conclusion of their race.
INCLEMENT WEATHER
In the case of inclement weather, all participants will be notified of changes to the race by email. A message will be at the top of the race web site and will be posted on our social media channels. This race will be run in the rain and light snow.
