Join fellow turkey lovers, runners and friends for an appetite-inducing morning of good-natured competition. Presented by Rip It Events, the 9th Annual Columbia Turkey Chase is an in-person race located in Columbia, MD. New for 2020, this race will take place on the Columbia Gateway Drive loop. This event is perfect for both beginners and experienced runners.
COVID-19 RULES AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
By registering for this event, participants agree to abide by all COVID-19 rules, requirements and other safety guidelines issued by the event, county, and the state. Participants will be required to sign a specific Covid-19 waiver during online registration. In accordance with CDC and Maryland guidelines, all participants are required to wear a face mask prior to the start of the race and at the conclusion of the race. Additionally, participants MUST carry a face mask on their person at all times during the race.

Participants may elect to defer their registration to the 2021 race (tentatively scheduled for Nov 21). There is no fee to to defer your registration. The deadline to request a defer is Friday, Nov 20. To request a defer, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Registration transfers are not permitted to other Rip It Events.
Race organizers reserve the right to close registration due to capacity limits.
Race organizers reserve the right to delay or cancel event due to extreme weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
The following are prohibited from the race course: pets, baby joggers/strollers, in-line skates, bicycles, and any other non-official wheeled vehicles.

RACE START & FINISH LOCATION
7001 Columbia Gateway Dr, Columbia, MD 21046 (Merkle office building)
PACKET PICK UP - Packet pick up is on race morning only.
Registered participants are required to pick up their packet before the start of the race. This includes getting your timing chip, bib, and shirt. Due to Covid-19, the following procedure will take place on race morning (subject to change).
1. All participants must pick up their packet in person no more than 30 minutes prior to your assigned start wave. Please DO NOT attempt to pick up your packet early. For example, if you are starting in Wave 9 at 9:24 a.m., your packet pick up time is 8:54 a.m. Runners are welcome to arrive to the park early but must stand clear of the packet pick up area and start/finish line.
2. To reduce the number of people at packet pick up, only registered participants themselves are permitted to pick up their packet. No exceptions. A photo ID will be required to pick up your packet.
PARTICIPANT SHIRT & FINISHER MEDAL
Participants will receive a logo shirt at packet pick up and a finisher medal at the finish line. Participant shirts are long sleeve and made by Zorrel Primease. They will be soft cotton type. To view the shirt size chart, click HERE.
To ensure runner safety and to reduce the amount of passing during the first few miles of the race, participants have been placed into waves of 50 people based on their average pace per mile as entered on the registration form. Participants MUST start in their assigned waves. The wave assignment list will be published and sent to participants via email one week prior to race day. If your average pace is list incorrectly but only by 30 seconds or so, please remain in your assigned wave. If you feel strongly that you should be placed in a different wave, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Starting in the same wave with a friend or spouse NOT considered a valid reason to request a wave change.

FACE MASKS (subject to change)
In accordance with CDC and Maryland guidelines, all participants are required to wear a face mask prior to the start of the race and at the conclusion of the race. Additionally, participants MUST carry a face mask on their person at all times during the race.
Allowing a non-registered runner to use your bib is NOT PERMITTED. There are two reasons for this rule.
1. We are implementing specific safety measures due to Covid-19. All registered participants will sign a wavier agreeing to the race rules during the registration process. Additionally, runners will receive detailed information from us days leading up to the event with updated safety requirements. Non-registered runners will not have signed the waiver and will not have receive communication from us.
2. Our race insurance covers registered runners only. It does not cover someone who is running under someone else's name/bib number.
The race starts and finishes next to the Merkel building on the outer loop of Gateway Drive.

To reduce the amount of contact between runners and race management, there will be no water stations on this run course. Participants are HIGHLY encourage to carry their own hydration during this race.
TIMING & WITHDRAWING DURING THE RACE
Your timing chip (orange square) is affixed to the back of your race number bib. Do not remove this timing chip. You can throw away your timing chip/race number at the conclusion of the race if you'd like. It is disposable. If you drop out of the race at any point, please notify member of the race staff. It is essential that we know where you are on the course at all times for your safety and our peace of mind.
RESULTS & AWARDS
To reduce the amount of close interaction between race staff and athletes, all results will be posted directly online in real time. Finishers can use their smart phone to access their individual results by going to the RESULTS webpage at the conclusion of their race. Awards will be given to the top finisher in the following categories: Overall, 7-8, 9-10, 11-13, 14-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+. All awards will be mailed to participants with in 2 weeks of the conclusion of the race.
Porta-potties will be located near the start/finish line. There are no bathrooms along the run course.
The inner loop of Gateway Drive will be closed 15 mins prior to the start of the race and during the race. Parking for this race will be in the office building lots near the start/finish line on the outer loop of Gateway Drive. To ensure a positive race day experience, it is recommended that participants arrive to the race no later than 7:45 am regardless of your starting wave.
